Planned Invasive Tree Removal in Sherwood Park

This month, City staff will be removing two invasive tree species, the Norway Maple (Acer platanoides) and Manitoba Maple (Acer negundo), in the northwest portion of Sherwood Park. The goal is to promote habitat restoration in this Environmentally Significant Area by reducing seed competition and nurturing the growth of native species.

Public access to forest trails may be restricted while removal work is underway. If tree removals are close to a residential area, notices will be delivered to adjacent homes in advance. Signage will also be posted on-site to inform park users of any upcoming forestry work and treatment. City staff anticipate that restoration tree planting will take place later this spring.
