Restoration of the Winter Windrow Clearing Program

As your City Councillor, it remains my priority to protect the core services that residents in Ward 15 – Don Valley West most rely on. Following the budget launch in January, I heard from many residents who were concerned about the proposed cancellation of the windrow snow clearing program. As you may know, windrows are the stubborn heaps of snow that pile up at the end of driveways when snow plows clear residential streets. This snow is packed tight and often piled high – making it challenging to remove without equipment, especially for seniors and residents with disabilities.

In advance of the February 14 City Council meeting, I worked closely with my Council colleagues to advocate for the restoration of this core municipal service. With my support, I’m pleased to report that City Council passed a motion to restore funding for winter windrow clearing services in the 2024 Budget – using a portion of the amount set aside by the Mayor for 2024 Emergent Budget Priorities. Thank you to the many Ward 15 residents who contacted my office about this issue. Your voices were heard loud and clear at City Hall, with the motion receiving unanimous support from City Council.
