The Children's Breakfast Club Black History Month Initiative

With help from its community partners, The Children's Breakfast Club (TCBC) provides children and youth in our communities with healthy meals, education, and cultural and recreational activities. As a result of its services, TCBC has become an integral part of every community it serves.

For the past 20 years, TCBC has taken children to Parliament Hill to meet the Prime Minister and Members of Parliament to commemorate Black History Month. Unfortunately, TCBC cannot provide this valuable experience in 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For this reason, TCBC has undertaken a new initiative to honour the contributions that Black Canadians make in communities across Toronto. They will be creating a poster for distribution at schools, fire halls, community centres, police stations, and other central locations to spread awareness and acknowledge the Black community's contributions to our City throughout Black History Month.

If you know someone from Ward 15 who has made an outstanding contribution to our community, please consider nominating them to be featured on the poster. TCBC has not created any specific criteria as they would like the poster to represent all contributions from Black community members.

You can submit your nominations by sending an email to karina@breakfastclubs.ca. Please make sure to include the following information:

• The nominee's full name;

• A short introduction of the individual;

• Their contribution to your community; and

• A photo of the individual (with the individual's permission) that will be used on the posters.
